A Double Celebration for Charisma Colourprint
In the year that they celebrate an unbroken 20 years of trading the Sheffield based print and mailing specialist achieve their first environmental award.
F S C and P E F C Accreditation.
Paul Cayton, Sales Director, said “We were one of the first print and direct mail companies to gain the ISO 9002 standard and we have now added to this, being one of the few print and mailing companies to gain both FSC and PEFC standards.
Charisma actively encourages its work force and customer’s participation in environmental initiatives. Almost 60% of all printed products are now being supplied on recycled papers, we are increasingly using vegetable based and recycled ink (we believe an industry first) and now any product printed can carry the FSC logo. This prestigious symbol is recognised throughout the world”.
What is FSC?
FSC recognises that we have an unbroken path or “chain of custody” from tree to end product. It tracks the product through all stages of production, manufacturing, transport and distribution.
- That wood is harvested and replenished
- Workers rights are protected
- Responsible forestry management policies are in place.

Celebration of 20 years unbroken trading

HOW OFTEN CAN YOU MAKE A POSITIVE ENVIRONMENTAL STATEMENT WITHOUT IT COSTING A PENNY???
During the latter stages of 2006 Charisma began to build upon its existing environmental policies. Shortly we will be announcing our qualification for the FSC Chain of Custody Certification.
What is FSC?
If a printer holds the FSC Chain of Custody and the paper being used in a project is FSC certified the end product can be labelled as FSC certified. This certificate is about the fibre tracking process only and ensures that there is no contamination between FSC and non-FSC material.
Charisma are making extensive use of environmentally friendly brands within its supplier base, these include papers and boards for most applications. Including Silks, matts, gloss coated and uncoated sheets.
Traditionally there has been concern about the quality and consistency of recycled grades for lithographic printing. We are now able to offer a range of specially selected grades combining the best of both worlds.
Charisma Polywrap Review
In addition to paper we have also carried out a review of our other materials. A result of this has been the identification, testing and introduction of a biodegradable polythene film for direct mail wrapping applications. So delighted are the clients that have started to use these grades of paper and film that they now account for over 50% of our current printed paper production. Again, Charisma will substitute this grade for standard film.

Charisma Upgrades Pre Press
Charisma has chosen Agfa’s JDF-powered workflow solution Apogee X for installation during November 2006 in its pre-press department.
Cherry Print acquired by Charisma
Wakefield based Cherry Print is now a member of the Charisma Colourprint family. Production Equipment for Cherry has been relocated to Sheffield but the company will maintain a sales and service centre based near Wakefield.
Charisma clients can benefit from 5 colour plus Coating
recent changes in the press room at Charisma mean that the company can now offer clients even greater choices of printed products. The company has now commissioned a Heidelberg Speedmaster 74 which offers 5 colours plus Coating in one pass. This press compliments the existing 5 colour Speedmaster (both of which perfect 3/2) plus a 2 colour Speedmaster 74
New Ink Jet installation allows high resolution barcoding
The arrival of Domino's A400 ink jet head brings even more flexibility to our existing configuration. This will allow our clients have barcodes inkjetted onto brochures, carriers or film and can bring time and cost savings when handling returns. It will also allow us to run additional lines of text, such as messages or return addresses bringing greater flexibility all round.
